Street Meet Events Revealed - UPDATE TO DMR
OPEN EVENTS
Open events are open to everyone on a first come, first serve basis. Racing starts at 1:00.
Speed Trap - Do you have the raw speed to become the next Usain Bolt? Let the radar gun show you and your friends how fast you really are and compare that to Bolt’s top speed in Beijing - 27mph! Participants run as fast as they can through a 5-meter speed zone. The radar gun captures your speed and displays it in miles per hour on the clock. The seven fastest men and women advance to the Speed Trap Finals. We also have prizes for the age group winners.
*** Cool Alert! Cool Alert! *** Every Speed Trap participant receives an image of himself/herself superimposed on the Beijing track next to Usain Bolt. Now you’ll have proof that you “almost beat Bolt.”
Street Sprint - Ten people at a time toe the line and race our street course. There are no times and the course wasn’t measured. It’s somewhere around 300 meters with lots of turns. Strategy, not speed, will rule the day at the Street Sprint. The winners of each heat (heats are run with all men or all women) will advance to the Street Sprint Final where we’ll crown the first ever Street Sprint Champion.
100-Meter Flash - We know you can’t beat Bolt in a foot race. Think you can beat him riding a bike? We’ll find out. Participants ride alongside a life-size cutout of Bolt, which travels at the same speed he achieved in his record-breaking 100m final in Beijing. Bikes will be provided. Robot legs will not.
MAIN EVENTS
These events are for the fastest competitors, both from the Open Events earlier in the day and also the ringers we’re brining in from Jamaica, Boston, and New York. The Main Events will begin around 4:30.
Speed Trap Final - The top 7 speeds from the Open Speed Trap will advance to the final where they’ll get two chances at the radar gun to better their speed. The two fastest men and two fastest women will form the Speed Trap A Team for the 4×1 Relay (see below). The 3rd and 4th fastest men and 3rd and 4th fastest women will form the Speed Trap B Team.
Street Sprint Final - The winners of each Street Sprint heat from earlier in the day will line up for the Street Sprint Final. This is one lap of the Street Course - no times, just racing. The first two men and two women across the line will form the Street Sprint A Team for the 4×4 Relay (see below). The 3rd and 4th across the line will form the Street Sprint B Team.
[UPDATED] Street DMR - Boston’s fastest high school’s will compete in this modified distance medley relay. Two boys and two girls per team will race legs of approximately 600m (boy) - 300m (girl) - 200m (girl) - 100m (boy). That equates to two loops around the long course - one loop around the long course - two loops around the short course - one loop around the short course. Course map is here.
Street K - A 1-kilometer street race is the perfect distance to match up the best high school middle distance runners. Both the boys race and the girls race will pit the top middle distance runners from Jamaica vs the best from Boston vs the best from New York. For the boys race we’re bringing in 1:54 man Waquar DaCosta and 1:57 man Layon Folkes from Jamaica. DaCosta won the 800m at the Boys & Girls Champs; Folkes finished second. To represent Boston and New York in the boys and girls races we have some of the top high school athletes confirmed (we’ll release the names in a few days). These two races will be fast and furious. Three laps around our Street Course; the first one across the line wins.
Street 4×1 - The 4×1 Relay is all about speed. There are no exchange zones and no batons, so nothing to counter raw speed. This race will pit coed teams from Jamaica vs the best Boston team vs the Speed Trap A Team vs the Speed Trap B Team. In other words, we’re matching up the best from Jamaica vs the best from Boston vs the best people off the street.
Street 4×4 - A classic high school track event. I mean, who hasn’t run a 4×4? Again, no exchange zones and no batons. Each team is coed (2 boys, 2 girls) and we’ll pit Team Jamaican vs Team Boston vs Street Sprint A Team vs Street Sprint B Team.
