Ross Martinson from Philadelphia Runner discusses all the key items one needs as the weather gets warmer and runners start to head outside. He showcases PUMA’s Spectana alongside Brooks and Asics, and talks accessories. You need to watch this to get ready for the Spring.
The Spectana is PUMA’s most stable trainer, and also offers one of the most comfortable rides on the market. Maximum stability comes from the patented M2D+ medial support technology. It’s a lightweight, unrestricted, and self-tuning material design that works like corrugated cardboard – the inner waves combine structural rigidity with superior cushioning when and where you need it. For maximum cushioning, PUMA has lined the Spectana with full-length IdCELL and a dual layer OrthoLite X40 sockliner. Plus there‘s a few millimeters more blown rubber in the forefoot to guarantee a comfortable ride. Built on the widest platform PUMA offers, with some of the best cushioning available, the Spectana is a perfect match for runners seeking a comfortable everyday stability trainer.

The Puma Phone (by Sagem) is getting ready to pounce. The phone is a touchscreen handset with an innovative user interface and a solar charger on the back.
Puma has taken some risks with the phone’s user interface, chucking the boring little icons and menus that we’ve come to expect on everything from smart phones to watch phones. The Puma Phone has a bright red UI that uses huge, bold icons to connect you with features such as the Web browser and Google maps. (A choice of less-red themes are also on board.)
The Puma Phone also has a host of Puma-centric features, such as links to Puma’s news feed, which focuses on the company’s sponsored athletes, such as Olympic sprinting god Usain Bolt.
If you’re tempted by the Puma, look for it in the first week of April, launching unlocked and SIM-free from Puma stores and on contract from UK networks.
The Complete RoadRacer III has been selected as the Best Runners Buy in the March issue of Runner’s World SA.
We’ve updated our Roadracer to bridge the gap between a pure racer and a lightweight trainer. The TFX Roadracer 3 is for runners looking to shed every excess ounce of foot-related baggage for a near-weightless shoe to smash PR’s in any race from 5K to marathon. The upper wears like a sock, but it’s supportive enough to be worn barefoot. The shoe offers minimal stability in the heel – perfect for lighter runners who can do without it.
Here’s what Runner’s World had to say:
PUMA’s Complete Racer 3 looks like a track shoe with the spikes swapped for road treads. The ArchTec support for the arch of the instep is for increasing the firmness for what Puma believes is anatomically relevant when moving at pace. Puma’s lightest shoe, and they back it all the way to marathon distance.
Watch and listen to some of the best athletes on the planet talk about the Complete Ventis. Usain Bolt, Elana Myer, Sean Quigley, and Delilah DiCrescenzo have been testing this shoe and share their thoughts on why this is PUMA’s best shoe in years.
The Ventis is a sleek high-performer built for neutral, biomechanically efficient runners with a need for everyday speed. The Ventis comes with enough cushioning to handle a daily training beat-down, while delivering plenty of flex and direct feel for the ground. We fine-tuned the ArchTech support to allow for a natural, flexible heel-to-toe transition. We packed a large Id-CELL crash pad onboard to ensure a soft landing. And we gave it our Fast Forward design to deliver a fast, effortless toe-off. The Ventis is a trainer designed to take whatever you dish out.
In their December issue, Runner’s World South Africa has awarded PUMA’s Complete Velosis its Editor’s Choice.
“The Velosis is the top end of PUMA’s latest range of running shoes and, together with the Vectana, has come on extremely effectively. PUMA is now right up there and you may well just surprise yourself at how competitive it has gotten at the top. Neutrally appointed shoe with a lot of cushioning.”
Congratulations to PUMA’s Product Team. This is only the beginning.
With the sales success of the new running shoes, the Vectana and the Velosis, I wanted to get some insight on the “why.” Here’s what the PUMA Product Team says:
“We made the shift in philosophy from cost-centric ideology to runner-centered approach where the fit, comfort and performance (plus retailer perception) are the key drivers. The Velosis and the Vectana have been a successful start for this way of thinking. We will continue down this path and we will continue to introduce more running shoes based on this way of thinking. The beginning of the product creation process should always be rooted in runners needs and benefits.”
A shop owner in the UK defined the success: “My initial reaction was that it was one of the best ‘fit and feel’ shoes I’ve tried on in a long while. The upper especially has a lush, smooth feel to it, and probably more importantly the cushioning feels good.”
A USA shop owner believes: “The new range is a vast improvement on Puma shoes I have seen/worn in the past.”
Wear tester on the Velosis: “The ride was smooth and forefoot cushioning was responsive on the roads.”
A German running insider said of the the Vectana: “I would place the shoe alongside the best selling stability shoe in terms of the level of support it offers.”
If you haven’t yet experienced the Vectana and Velosis, check them out at your favorite retailer or the online PUMA store at links on right.
You know that PUMA is sponsoring Edward Norton and the Maasai Warrior team who will be competing in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday November 1st to raise money and awareness for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT). The t-shirts are available now online and at our New York retail partners: New York Running Company, Paragon, Jack Rabbit, Select Foot Locker locations, and Macy’s Herald Square.
T-shirts cost $30 and 50% of the proceeds go directly to the MWCT. Show your support and look sharp the next time you run. The two designs are both 100% certified U.S. organic cotton (very breathable) and were printed with eco-conscience ink.

PUMA stepped up to sponsor the Woodbridge XC Invitational for the third year in a row. Woodbridge is home to the largest one day cross country meet in the country. With over 13,000 participants and 10,000 fans, it was quite the spectacle.
On-site, PUMA brought the famous PUMA Cube, a massive 40 foot inflatable structure in which a retail space was set up. Outside, the speed trap was running hot in search of the fastest of the fast. Then came the spray paint - we asked some athletes to…uh…redecorate.
Since when was XC this much fun?!
PS - Still need some spikes for the XC season? The Ngong XC has been getting rave reviews. Check ‘em out!
220 Triathlon Editor’s Choice - October 2009
PUMA Velosis
Triathletes who have run in PUMA shoes in the last half a decade will know that they tend to provide a hard ride. There are fans of this style, but our testing team know that such a ride is, more often than not, unpopular. It appears PUMA has concluded exactly that with this shoe.
The Velosis is soft, but not unduly so, with the cushioning nigh on perfect. Forefoot, underfoot and rear cushioning is all much more forgiving than usual, and the wide toe box and flexibility, combined with an acceptable weight, makes this a shoe you’ll be happy running on the road with. The only minor ‘fit’ niggle was that the in-sole slipped mid run.
They’re designed for neutral runners, although mild pronators would be just as happy in them for pacy efforts in the winter, given the comfort and support provided.”
Congrats to the PUMA shoe design team. jpgs of article on our facebook page
Both Women’s Health and Inside Sport magazines are praising PUMA’s Vectana and Velosis in their issues this month.
According to Women’s Health, shoe tester Rhea Mercado, a Sydney Exercise Physiologist who tested all the major brands, the PUMA Women’s Vectana were the most comfortable shoes she tested.
Rhea says “the Vectana had the most cushioning for the balls of her feet, the arch and the heel and they were flexible fitting her wide feet.”
Both shoe can be purchased online at the links on the right.
Craig Weinmann of the Running Network included PUMA’s Ngong XC in his fall shoe review. He tested eight shoe models. “Despite their low-profile design, croos country shoes provide protective cushioning and traction on varying terrains. The subtle differences allow most runners to find a racing shoe best suited for their particular foot.”
The two most important considerations in choosing a cross country shoe are fit and feel. Cushioning is critical to comfort and performance. He advises that you spend time in the shoes before the actual race because “the intense effort of racing can be tough on your soft tissue if you haven’t prepared well.”
Spikes are better than spikeless for gripping muddy or soggy ground, but are limited on all-natural courses. He believes that spikeless models manage pavement, sidewalks and rocky surfaces, and work equally well on indoor or outdoor tracks.
“The midsole and outersole provide traction and cushioning which work well on a variety of surfaces. The spikeless version even does a good job on the roads. The upper is airmesh with overlays to support the midfoot. Inside you’ll find the plushest barefoot feel of all the shoes reviewed. - Super fit. Very comfortable. Works great on trail, road, grass, you name it.”
